I haven't draw/painted for last few months due to a lack of inspiration and thus motivation. However, a few days ago I started on a drawing, and the inspiration/motivation was delivered by the perfect combination of discovering an amazing band and having to study for final exams. The latest obsession is Magazine. They're a post-punk band that was around from 1978-1981. The frontman Howard Devoto was actually one of the co-founders of the Buzzcocks, but he quit a week after the band's first EP "Spiral Scratch" was released. (The EP is awesome btw. It's got all the viciousness of the Sex Pistols mixed with the fun of the Ramones.) So the other night I was supposed to be studying for my Calculus final but was secretly seeking something to do so that I don't have read about formulas for curve length. After half an hour of online photography research on Howard Devoto, I found a picture and started drawing him. And here is a little anecdote:
...I am drawing diligently in my room. Mum comes in, and looks at my drawing and then at the reference photo...
Mum: Is that a celebrity you're drawing?
Me: (with much sarcasm) No, it's an alien.
Mum: Oh, no wonder why I thought he looked so weird. Yeah, now it makes more sense. Cuz the eyes are just too big and the face too narrow to be normal.
...Mum leaves. For the next five minutes I am left in stitches laughing.
So apparently I cannot convey sarcasm and Howard Devoto looks like an alien. Actually I dont' think neither of the two are true, but you can judge for yourself about the alieness:
